MASK MAKING 3-day WORKSHOP

In this engaging experience, participants will use household and found materials alongside traditional art supplies to create unique masks for their Halloween costumes. Participants will learn to sketch and use source images for inspiration and conceptual development, then build their masks using a variety of common materials and specific techniques.

The workshop is designed to be process-oriented, providing space for self-driven ideas while offering instructive guidance from our facilitators.

  • Dates: Two Sundays in October: October 13th and October 20th  

    Bonus Session: An informal session on October 27th for those who need extra time to complete their masks  

    Location: Newburgh Creates located at 10 Carpenter Ave in the City of Newburgh

    • Cardboard  

    • Milk/other plastic cartons  

    • Scissors 

    • Mat knives  

    • Hot glue guns/glue sticks  

    • Acrylic paint  

    • Brushes  

    • Everyday “found” objects/materials/household items  

    • String/yarn  

    • Fabric/felt  

    • Stick-type/other glue  

    • Masking tape  

  • Inspirational source materials (comics, pictures of animals, environment, people, fashion magazines, plants, etc.) 

    • Learn to use and transform a variety of mediums into a sculptural object.  

    • Explore different mask-making techniques.  

    • Build confidence in the process of combining various materials and techniques to create something new.  

    • Create a personalized mask for Halloween. 

    • Creativity: Developing original ideas and concepts for unique mask designs.

    • Sketching and Planning: Learning to sketch and use source images for inspiration.

    • Material Exploration: Understanding how to work with various materials, including found objects.

    • Sculptural Techniques: Gaining skills in transforming materials into three-dimensional objects.
