Welcome to
FIRST LEGO League!
FIRST LEGO League (FLL) at Newburgh Creates are 12-person robotics teams for ages 9-14 years old. We use project-based, hands-on FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) programs which introduce students to engineering and coding in an engaging, inclusive, and creative learning environment. Our teams work collaboratively to solve an annual, themed robotics challenge and compete in regional tournaments. See below for this year’s featured theme!
-
FIRST LEGO League (FLL) is a robotics program designed for children aged 9 to 14, aimed at fostering excitement about science and technology while imparting valuable employment and life skills. In FLL, teams learn through both their activities (the Robot Game and the Project) and their approach (the FLL Core Values).
Every late August, FIRST LEGO League unveils a new challenge centered around a different scientific topic or question. Previous themes have encompassed nanotechnology, climate, quality of life for individuals with disabilities, and transportation. The challenge comprises three primary components:
-
Robot Game – Teams construct and program an autonomous LEGO SPIKE PRIME® robot to earn points by completing designated mission tasks inspired by the challenge theme. These tasks entail navigating, capturing, transporting, or delivering objects on a designated mission mat.
Project – Teams delve into the scientific concepts related to the challenge theme. Students leverage their creativity to devise a solution (or enhance an existing one) to address a real-world issue.
Core Values – Throughout their work on the robot game and project each season, FLL teams adhere to the FLL Core Values. These values are integral to the unique essence of FLL, as participants compete fervently while upholding respect for their teammates, coaches, and even their rivals. By embracing the Core Values, participants discover that friendly competition and collective progress are not conflicting objectives and that collaboration forms the cornerstone of effective teamwork.
-
At the culmination of the season, each team will partake in a tournament where they will be evaluated on their project presentation, Core Values demonstration, and robot design. Teams will also engage in three rounds of the robot game. Awards are up for grabs in each of these categories, offering teams the chance to be recognized for their achievements.
