Newburgh Creates' founder, Sam Spillman's Profile Photo

Sam Spillman

Sam Spillman is an artist working at the intersection of visual art and architecture. Pulling from his 20 years of experience as a contractor, Sam builds large installations that question expectation, stability, and control. These interactive physical manifestations reach beyond material, and extend into queries of the social and political. He integrates various types of building material, found objects, cultural artifacts, light, texture and sound to create site-specific works, using the existing architecture as a place of departure. Sam holds an undergraduate degree from Warren Wilson College and a Master of Fine Art from the School of Art + Design at Purchase College SUNY, where he is currently a Lecturer in the Sculpture Department.
